Both buses and taxis run into central Dover from the Port of Dover throughout the day and night, although it is possible to walk into town from the ferry terminal in about 15 or 20 minutes.

Travel by Bus and Shuttles

If you arrive in Dover or the Eastern Docks ferry terminal during they day, all ferry operators provide free bus transport to and from Dover.

Car Hire and Road Travel

Although Dover is located in southeast England, and quite a long way from many places, getting here is made easy by the motorways. The M25 and M20 provide access from the London area to Folkestone, where you change to the A20 which runs directly into Dover and the Eastern Docks ferry terminal.

If you plan on travelling farther afield from Dover and don't have a car, hiring a car is a good idea. Many car rental firms are represented in the town. The best way to secure a good deal and make sure you get the right vehicle for your needs is to book online and in advance.
